INKSTER, Mich. (AP) - A suburban Detroit woman faced multiple charges Saturday for the alleged fatal stabbing of her 3-year-old son, prosecutors said.

Atiya Nina Muhammed, 26, of Inkster was charged with first-degree premeditated murder, felony murder, first-degree child abuse and torture in the slaying of Zion Reid, Wayne County prosecutors said.

Police found Zion in a bedroom of his home in a state of decomposition Wednesday afternoon, prosecutors said. Relatives had gone to the home to do a welfare check. They had been unable to reach Muhammed for days.

The Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Zion died from multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma.

Muhammed wasn’t at the home. She was apprehended later Wednesday at a hotel. She is expected to be arraigned Sunday.
