RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A court says a North Carolina investigative agent is legitimately out of a job after she drank alcohol while on duty and then lied about it.
The state Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday that former State Bureau of Investigation agent Christine Brewington violated agency personal conduct rules and was appropriately dismissed.
Brewington was investigating whether a Cumberland County pharmacy was illegally diverting drugs when she had lunch with another investigator and ordered two mixed drinks. She was later asked about the incident, denied what happened and was fired in 2015 after a 17-year career.
The court said the case raised concerns in the law enforcement community because two witnesses did not testify at Brewington’s employment hearing, but that the findings were supported by substantial evidence.
