The rhetoric and promises of many current Democrats and democratic socialists bring back memories of my father from the 1940s.

As I recall, his occasional admonitions to me and my brother went something like this: “You boys seem to think that the world owes you a living and that money grow on trees. There is no such thing as a free lunch.”

The aforementioned politicians are attempting to convince voters that if you vote for them, they will provide ‘free lunches’ in the form of various no-cost items. Of course, they understand that there is no such thing as a free lunch, so they propose to provide free stuff to others by simply making the rich pay their “fair share” of taxes.

In response, why does the media not keep the voting public informed of who pays what in taxes? For example, recent IRS numbers indicate that the top 10% of earners already pay 72% of all federal taxes collected, while the bottom 50% of earners pay just 3.3% — even though they earned 12.3% of total adjusted gross income.

Seems like the rich are paying their fair share after all.
