FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) - A man who fired randomly into a crowd after his girlfriend was injured in a fight has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing a man.
Dante Strong must serve nearly 13 years of the term imposed Friday before he becomes eligible for parole. The 21-year-old Long Branch man had pleaded guilty in June to aggravated manslaughter and two weapons offenses.
The September 2013 shooting occurred in Long Branch.
Strong had attended a party staged at a fraternal organization and the crowd eventually became unruly. Some attendees ended up on the front porch of a home and a fight soon broke out.
When Strong asked his girlfriend about her injuries, she pointed toward the porch. Strong then got a gun and fired several shots at the porch area, some of which hit 23-year-old Adrian Anderson.
