KINGSTON, N.Y. (AP) - An upstate New York man has admitted that he broke into his estranged wife’s Hudson Valley apartment last spring and fatally stabbed her new lover as he slept.
Twenty-seven-year-old Earl Edwards Jr. pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder Tuesday in Ulster County Court for the May 2016 killing of 40-year-old Rameen Perry.
The Saugerties (SAW’-ger-teez) man’s plea came just hours before he was to stand trial.
Prosecutors say Edwards spoke to his estranged wife several times on the night of Perry’s murder. Edwards left work, broke into his estranged wife’s home and found her sleeping with Perry.
Edwards pierced Perry’s heart with a knife and then beat him with various furniture items.
Prosecutors are recommending a prison term of 20 years to life for Edwards.
