BEAVER, Pa. (AP) - Jury selection is set for a registered sex offender charged with killing and raping his ex-girlfriend after breaking into her western Pennsylvania apartment.
Police say 27-year-old Edward Baker Jr. confessed to the June 2016 slaying of 30-year-old Addaleigh Huzyak, and his attorney has been unsuccessful in getting a judge to toss that statement from evidence.
Baker’s attorney, Stephen Colafella, declined comment in advance of Monday’s jury selection in Beaver County.
Authorities say Huzyak broke up with Baker the week before she was killed, and he confessed to breaking into her Beaver apartment on June 5 and waited for her to return home. Investigators say he shot her twice and slit her throat when she returned.
Baker was arrested in Clark County, Kentucky two days later.
He’s been a registered sex offender since 2013.
