MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - A 24-year-old man has been accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend over the weekend in Moncks Corner.
Media outlets report that Edward I. Nelson, of North Charleston, is charged with murder following the slaying of 38-year-old Shanda Davis.
Police found Davis suffering from multiple stab wounds outside an apartment complex Saturday night. She died early Sunday at a local hospital.
Moncks Corner Police Chief Rick Ollic declined to discuss a motive Monday. He says investigators are examining whether the department has responded to prior issues between the couple.
Jail records show Nelson also faces a count of possession of a deadly weapon. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
