CHICAGO (AP) - A U.S. Army veteran who lived in Chicago and served in Vietnam will posthumously receive the Congressional Medal of Honor.
Felix M. Conde-Falcon was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Chicago. He was among two dozen Army veterans the White House announced Tuesday will receive the honor. It comes after a congressionally mandated review to ensure that eligible recipients were not bypassed due to prejudice.
Conde-Falcon died in action on April 4, 1969. He was a platoon leader who the White House says died after “destroying multiple enemy bunkers and demonstrating extraordinary leadership under fire.”
A mass award ceremony is scheduled for March 18.
