SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) - A sheriff’s deputy in South Carolina has been arrested and is accused of choking a woman and a child and pointing a gun at a minor.

News outlets reported that 41-year-old Gary Samuel Watson Jr. of Moore was charged Thursday with first-degree domestic violence, pointing a gun and child neglect.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office asked the State Law Enforcement Division to investigate an assault.

Sheriff Chuck Wright said Watson has resigned.

Warrants say Watson choked a woman Wednesday in front of a child and pointed a gun and choked the child.

It was not known if Watson has an attorney.
