MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) - The former treasurer of the Helmer Water Association and Helmer Sewer District has been accused of stealing from the groups.
The Lewiston Tribune reported Wednesday (https://bit.ly/2kX0hGc ) that 80-year-old Sarah “Sally” Roberts has been charged with two felony counts of misuse of public money for allegedly taking $9,000 to cover personal expenses.
The Latah County Sheriff’s Office began investigating an alleged misuse of funds in March 2015 after some members of the districts’ board of directors reported they couldn’t match the treasurer’s report to account balances.
According to court documents, a number of Helmer residents paid their sewage and water bills in cash between 2009 and 2015, but that cash was never deposited into the districts’ accounts.
Roberts was then let go from the districts.
