ISHPEMING, Mich. (AP) - A judge has sentenced two Upper Peninsula men to decades in prison for the abduction and torture of two women in the basement of a business.
A Marquette County judge on Monday sentenced 44-year-old Jason Sadowski to 40-80 years, and 65-year-old Charles Cope of Ishpeming to 25-40 years. The men were convicted in March of the charges stemming from July.
Both were found guilty of torture and unlawful imprisonment. Sadowski also was convicted of solicitation of murder, but found not guilty of criminal sexual conduct.
Authorities say the 44- and 30-year-old women were held captive, threatened and beaten after stealing money from Sadowski’s wallet.
One of the women was able to get a cellphone and call 911, and officers found the women duct-taped to support posts in the basement of a business.
