YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate at a Yuma jail is dead after a scuffle with detention officers.
Yuma County Sheriff’s officials say 29-year-old Jordan Stevens was being escorted from his holding cell for release procedures Wednesday afternoon when he allegedly became aggressive toward officers.
They say Stevens didn’t comply with orders to stop and an electronic control device was used on him.
Sheriff’s officials say the inmate was escorted back to the holding cell but was later found to be unresponsive.
Jail nurses performed CPR on Stevens until he was transported to a Yuma hospital.
He was pronounced dead around 2:30 p.m.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy.
Yuma police say Stevens was booked into jail early Wednesday on suspicion of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
