CADIZ, Ky. (AP) - Two children who were left home alone have died in a fire and their mother is facing charges, police said.

Emergency crews responded to the residential blaze Tuesday afternoon in Cadiz, officials said. After the fire was extinguished, crews searched the home and found the bodies of both juveniles, who were pronounced dead at the scene by the Trigg County Coroner, Kentucky State Police said in a statement.

An investigation determined that Keyona Bingham, 30 of Cadiz, left her children unattended and a fire started while she was away, police said. Troopers charged Bingham with two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment and took her to the Christian County jail, records show.

Authorities have not determined how the fire started, police said. The ages of the children weren’t released. Autopsies were scheduled on Wednesday.

Online jail records don’t indicate whether Bingham has an attorney.
