FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) - A Florida man has been convicted of biting a police officer.
Lee County court records show that 37-year-old Lawrance Washka was found guilty this week of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting an officer with violence.
Deputies responded to a North Fort Myers gas station in February following reports of a man in a station wagon circling the pumps and asking people for their identification. When deputies attempted to make contract, Washka sped up and continued to drive in circles. He eventually parked but refused to leave his car.
Deputies say they went to pull Washka out of the station wagon, and he began flailing around and yelling that the uniformed deputies driving marked patrol vehicles “were not the real police.” Prosecutors say Washka then bit a deputy on the bare arm.
