ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) - One of five men accused in the robbery and killing of a Douglas County, Ore., man is getting a new court-appointed defense attorney.
Lawrence Harper of Canyonville says he and his Klamath Falls-based attorney only spoke after hearings and were unable to talk because of telephone-connection problems at the county jail.
Harper says he’s had to call others to get in contact with his lawyer and relay messages.
Harper also expressed frustration over being in custody since November without yet speaking with a private investigator.
The Roseburg News-Review reports (https://is.gd/AfnAG1 ) that Judge George Ambrosini said he would appoint a new attorney as soon as possible.
Harper and four co-defendants are accused of murdering 57-year-old William Joe Bruton at his home while stealing medical marijuana.
