President Trump cast his ballot by mail in Florida’s Republican primary.
According to voting records from Palm Beach County, Mr. Trump requested his ballot in late July, and it was returned on Thursday.
The president previously voted by mail in the county earlier in the year for a special election.
Mr. Trump, a critic of mail-in ballots, defended his decision to vote that way in March, telling White House reporters that there are exceptions he supports.
“I did a mail-in ballot for elections that took place in Florida, because I felt I should be here [in Washington] instead of being in the beautiful sunshine” in Mar-a-Lago, he said. “And I decided that I was going to vote by mail-in ballot because I couldn’t be there because I had a lot of different things. But you know we have exceptions for mail-in ballots.”
Mr. Trump, who signed an executive order this year overhauling the mail-in ballot system, listed the exceptions to the prohibition, including being in the military, on a business trip, disabled or ill.
“So, I was away, mostly in Washington D.C., so I used a mail-in ballot,” he said.
The Trump administration called on the Supreme Court in late July to make way for an executive order from the president that could significantly overhaul mail-in voting.
The emergency appeal happened after an appeals court upheld a ruling blocking Mr. Trump’s order in about half the country before November’s midterm elections.
The Justice Department asked the Supreme Court to let agencies take steps to implement the changes while lawsuits play out.
Mr. Trump ordered his administration in March to create a “state citizenship list” of eligible voters and send mail ballots only to people on that list.
Tuesday’s GOP primary has a packed governor’s race ballot that includes Trump-endorsed front-runner Byron Donalds, who’s currently a congressman.
Mr. Donalds’ opponents are Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, former state House Speaker Paul Renner and businessman James Fishback.
