ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a Weaverville man has pleaded guilty to importing more than two pounds of the opioid fentanyl from China.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (https://avlne.ws/2lMusxA) 33-year-old Mark Dunajski was arrested Jan. 5 and charged with illegal importation of controlled substances.
Court records filed in U.S. District Court said Dunajski imported a kilogram of fentanyl from China and was in possession of 8 grams of the drug in his home. An undercover officer posing as a UPS employee delivered the package. Federal agents watched through a window as Dunajski attempted to open it.
Dunajski admitted to possessing the drugs.
The Drug Enforcement Agency said Dunajski faces at least 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10 million.
