MARTINSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - A Virginia man convicted of paying another person to burn down his house in West Virginia has received probation.
Fifty-five-year-old Michael Sites of Petersburg, Va., had entered an Alford plea last week in Berkeley County Circuit Court to one count of first-degree arson. An Alford plea acknowledges the state has sufficient evidence to prosecute but is not an admission of guilt.
The Journal (https://bit.ly/1klvoCA ) reports that Sites was sentenced Wednesday to five years of supervised probation.
Sites was accused of soliciting another man in 2010 to burn down his house in Berkeley County because he couldn’t afford the mortgage payments.
