A cop in Montgomery County, Maryland, responded to a residence to remove a snake from under a bed after the homeowner found out that animal control couldn’t help.

The Montgomery County Police Department posted bodycam footage on social media Friday showing Officer Austin Fogarty using a grabbing device to get the snake out from under the bed Wednesday night. The officer then grabbed the snake and carried it outside before returning it to nature.

Neither Officer Fogarty nor the elderly woman who called for help was harmed, according to Montgomery Community Media.

Degan Bartels, a public information officer with the police department, said, “I thought he must have grown up grabbing snakes or something because he grabbed it in an expert way,” but that in fact “it was his first time.”

The woman who placed the call, who did not provide her name, told Washington’s WUSA that she called the police Wednesday to come get the snake but was told that local animal control staffers couldn’t come to her Montgomery Village home until the next day.

Authorities believe that the 2-foot-long snake may have come to the woman’s home from a nearby lake, according to WUSA.
