CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) - Two inmates accused of killing another inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary at Hazelton will be tried separately.
The Exponent Telegram (https://bit.ly/1imBjGF ) reports that U.S. District Judge Irene Keeley severed the cases of 33-year-old Patrick Franklin Andrews and 32-year-old Kevin Marquette Bellinger last week.
Andrews and Bellinger are each charged with aiding and abetting murder by a federal prisoner serving a life sentence. The charges stem from the 2007 slaying of 28-year-old Jesse Harris at the prison.
Andrews could face the death penalty if he’s convicted. Bellinger could face life in prison.
Bellinger’s trial is set for June 9 while Andrews’ trial is scheduled for May 4, 2015.
Both inmates had been scheduled to be tried together on June 9.
