WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (AP) - A Kentucky man accused of hitting a state trooper with his car during a traffic stop was shot and wounded by the officer and is now facing multiple charges, authorities said.
Randy Sullivan, 21, was charged Tuesday with attempted murder, drug trafficking, evading police, felony handgun possession and multiple traffic violations, news outlets reported.
Kentucky State Police said the trooper had pulled Sullivan over Tuesday evening and spotted drugs in his car. The trooper then ordered Sullivan to get out of the car but Sullivan refused and attempted to flee, hitting the officer with his car and dragging him, police said.
The trooper shot Sullivan, who was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, police said. The trooper wasn’t injured.
A passenger in Sullivan’s car, 42-year-old Linda Adams, was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, authorities said. Adams was taken to the Whitley County Detention Center.
It’s unclear whether Sullivan or Adams had attorneys who could comment on their behalf.
