PURVIS, Miss. (AP) - The attorney general’s office says a nurse has been arrested on a charge of depraved heart murder.
Attorney General Jim Hood says in a news release that 28-year-old April Renae Grissom of Petal turned herself Wednesday after she was indicted a Lamar County grand jury.
The indictment alleges Grissom turned off the machines that were helping keep the alleged victim alive. Grissom was working as a registered nurse at the facility where the 77-year-old victim was receiving treatment.
Grissom was booked into the Lamar County jail.
Under Mississippi law, depraved heart murder is an action that demonstrates a “callous disregard for human life” and results in death. It carries a life sentence.
