GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - A teen has been arrested in connection with a shooting that killed a 17-year-old girl at a park in South Carolina last month.

Greenville County sheriff’s deputies said in a new release that 18-year-old Ricci Murphy Jr. of Simpsonville has been arrested on weapons charges.

Deputies said Murphy did not have a permit for a gun he fired around midnight on May 14, causing a panic in a crowd of about 100 people at a park. Investigators say one person fired back and that shot struck and killed Makiya Hawkins.

Murphy is charged with illegally carrying a pistol and aggravated breach of peace. It was not known if he has an attorney yet.

Deputies have not found the person who fired the shot that killed Hawkins.
