Welfare check leads to homicide investigation in man’s death

GASTON, S.C. (AP) - Lexington County deputies are investigating the death of a man found in a home as a homicide.

Local media outlets report deputies found the body of 67-year-old Robert John Kobylak inside his home on Monday night. Deputies did a welfare check when Kobylak’s friends voiced concern because he hadn’t been heard from in weeks.

Sheriff Jay Koon says some items near Kobylak’s body and around his home were in disarray. Kobylak’s blue 2006 Toyota Corolla is also missing.

Authorities have not disclosed how Kobylak died but say they are investigating his death as a homicide.
