PROVIDENCE, R..I (AP) - A man on trial in Rhode Island has admitted to his role in a scheme that involved stealing the identities of people and using the information to apply for ATM cards, prosecutors said.
Stacy Moore, of Miami Beach, Florida, pleaded guilty Wednesday to bank fraud, identity theft and mail theft charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Rhode Island.
From December 2018 to February 2019, Moore, 48, used fraudulently obtained debit cards and PINs to make withdrawals from at least six people’s bank accounts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts, according to court documents.
Moore admitted that replacement debit cards were ordered over the phone. The new cards were sent and then stolen from the account holders’ mailboxes.
Prosecutors said Moore was arrested after stealing mail from an East Greenwich home while wearing a U.S. Postal Service shirt.
Moore’s sentencing is scheduled for May 7.
