WAYNE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities have made an arrest in a burglary that was interrupted when an 11-year-old boy spotted an intruder in his home and notified a neighbor.
Wayne police say 23-year-old Thomas Coughlin, of Pompton Lakes, was charged Tuesday with burglary and theft. His bail was set at $50,000 and it wasn’t known if he’s retained an attorney.
Authorities say the boy was returning home around 3:20 p.m. Monday when he saw a man in a first-floor room. The boy ran to a neighbor’s home and asked that they call police.
Surveillance footage in the home captured the man entering through a rear sliding glass patio door and walking through the home. He was gone before police arrived, but a video image released by authorities generated tips that led to his capture.
