PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Police in Maine say a man broke into an apartment, but left behind his wallet that authorities later used to find and arrest him.

Authorities say police were called to a Portland apartment early Wednesday when residents awoke to find a stranger in their living room.

Police say 32-year-old Troy Day was gone by the time they arrived, but they said he left his wallet behind with an ID card listing his name.

The Portland man was found a short distance away and arrested.

The Portland Press Herald reports that Day was been charged with burglary, theft and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. He is being held on $10,000 bail and is due in court Friday. It was unclear if he had a lawyer.
