Rep. Lauren Boebert’s son charged with sexual exploitation of a child

The son of Rep. Lauren Boebert was arrested in Colorado on charges of sexual exploitation of a child, authorities said Monday.

Tyler Boebert, son of the Colorado Republican, is facing five felony charges: three for sexual exploitation of a child — including one for enticing or inducing, one for intent and one for videos — as well as two for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The 21-year-old was taken into custody Sunday and released on a $10,000 bond, the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. He is scheduled to appear before a judge on Aug. 19.

“I love my son,” Ms. Boebert said in a statement Monday. “We take allegations very seriously and pray for everyone affected during this challenging time.”

The charges stem from a 2024 incident, according to court records.

He allegedly recorded a video having sex with a 17-year-old girl while he was 18, and the girl’s mother later alerted authorities that the video was posted on Instagram, according to an affidavit in support of an arrest warrant.

He is accused of producing, possessing and distributing sexually exploitative material, having “caused, induced and enticed a child to be used in explicit sexual conduct for the making of sexually exploitative material,” according to the affidavit.

The affidavit references six other people facing related charges, and a 124-person Instagram group chat tied to the material.

After Tyler Boebert was arrested in 2024 on felony counts of criminal possession of identification documents and conspiracy to commit a felony, and more than 15 additional misdemeanor and petty offenses, Ms. Boebert said he had been through “some very difficult, public challenges for a young man.”

“It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track,” she said at the time. “I will never give up on him, and I will continue to be there for him.”

He pleaded guilty to a felony for attempting to commit identity theft and received a deferred sentence, community service and probation.

In 2025, he was issued a citation for misdemeanor child abuse negligence with no injury relating to an incident involving his son. He pleaded guilty and has a sentencing hearing scheduled for Sept. 4.
