Maryland special teams rundown: Connecticut

It’s three weeks into the season, so everyone knows the drill with the special teams rundown …

KICKOFF

21-23-48-52-81-15-9-53-20-10-25

No personnel changes on this unit, which has remained the same in all three games. There are five defensive backs (20-Anthony Nixon, 21-Sean Davis, 23-Makinton Dorleant, 25-Dexter McDougle and 48-Eric Franklin), three linebackers (9-Demetrius Hartsfield, 52-Darin Drakeford and 53-L.A Goree), one wideout (10-Tyrek Cheeseboro), one tight end (81-Ryan Schlothauer) and kicker 15-Brad Craddock

KICKOFF RETURN

10-89-86-13/3-12/39-81/82-4/1

Nothing changed from the second half of the Temple game, when 39-Jeff Hernandez took the place of the concussed 49-Tyler Cierski.

This group includes six wideouts (1-Stefon Diggs, 3-Nigel King, Cheeseboro, 12-Kevin Dorsey, 13-Kerry Boykins and 82-Marcus Leak), three tight ends (Schlothauer, 86-Dave Stinebaugh and 89-Matt Furstenburg), tailback 4-Wes Brown and Hernandez.

PUNT

Punter: 18-Nathan Renfro
Snapper: 59-Greg Parcher
Blockers: 48-89-23-81-21-86-47-41-20

Again, no personnel changes here, either. There’s three tight ends (Schlothauer, Stinebaugh and Furstenburg), four defensive backs (Davis, Dorleant, Franklin and 20-Anthony Nixon) and two linebackers (41-Marcus Whitfield and 47-Cole Farrand). Nixon has taken Cierski’s spot on the punt wall.

PUNT RETURN

Returner: 1
Second safety:
25
Blockers:
3-23-13-81-20-86-10-21-8

The major change here was moving away from a single safety formation, placing McDougle in the back and adding him to this unit in place of Brown. This remains the one of the four kickoff/punt units that true freshman 8-Levern Jacobs plays on.

FIELD GOAL

Kicker: 15
Holder: 18
Snapper: 59
Line: 34-89-74-63-59-67-75-81-86

Stinebaugh continues in place of the injured Cierski. The one week-to-week tweak here was plugging in 67-Peter White in place of 70-De’Onte Arnett, who was listed as questionable coming into the Connecticut game. Arnett played much of the game at right guard, though White made his season debut while filling in for the junior.

FIELD GOAL BLOCK

Just the usual stuff here, with the defense on the field for a series sticking around for the kick. Drakeford and Whitfield were both spotted as the on-field Will, while both Farrand and Goree were spotted as the Mike linebacker during kicks.
