ASHBURN, Va. — The Washington Redskins re-signed receiver Donte Stallworth and defensive end Darrion Scott and placed receiver Leonard Hankerson (torn labrum in right hip) and defensive end Kedric Golston (knee) on injured reserve.
Tuesday’s moves make Hankerson and Golston the sixth and seventh Redskins players on IR this season. Stallworth and Scott were cut by the Redskins as part of a flurry of roster moves last week. Stallworth has five catches this season, and Scott has not played.
• Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger played with a fractured right thumb during Sunday’s victory at Cincinnati. Roethlisberger will continue to play with a splint for the Steelers, who have a bye this week before playing at Kansas City on Nov. 27.
• Minnesota Vikings cornerback Antoine Winfield suffered a fractured clavicle during Monday night’s 45-7 loss at Green Bay and will miss the rest of the season. Winfield returned after missing four games because of a neck injury. But he broke his clavicle while tackling tight end Jermichael Finley, an injury that further decimates the Vikings‘ secondary.
Dempsey, Altidore spark U.S. to 3-2 victory over Slovenia
LJUBLJANA, Slovenia — The United States won for just the second time since Jurgen Klinsmann took over as coach, with Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore scoring in a two-minute span late in the first half to lead the Americans over Slovenia 3-2 on a foggy Tuesday night.
Tim Matavz scored twice for Slovenia, and Edson Buddle got the opening goal for the Americans, who had been outscored 5-2 in going 1-4-1 since Klinsmann replaced Bob Bradley in late July.
Sabres’ Miller still irked by hit that caused concussion
BUFFALO, N.Y. — Buffalo Sabres goalie Ryan Miller had plenty to get off his chest in speaking for the first time since being diagnosed with a concussion after being leveled by Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic last weekend.
Miller isn’t sure when he’ll return. He said he has whiplash and still is experiencing soreness in his neck and post-concussion-like symptoms. He doesn’t buy Lucic’s explanation that the Bruins’ forward was playing the puck and couldn’t avoid colliding with Miller in Buffalo’s 6-2 loss at Boston on Saturday.
• Vancouver Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo is day to day with an upper-body injury. He is 7-5 this season with a 2.97 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage. Cory Schneider will start Wednesday night against the Chicago Blackhawks.
