While the village of Middleburg, Va., offers a charming place to stroll, dine and shop for antiques, the real draw of this section of Loudoun County is found outside of town. Winding roads meander around the hills and valleys of Middleburg, past horse farms and vineyards, over streams and under canopies of trees.

Visitors to Virginia horse country often long to live the life of serenity offered by homes that rest on acres of private land, with just the sounds and sights of nature as the nearest neighbors.

At Fox Knoll of Middleburg, Van Metre Homes is building 14 homes from its Marquis Custom Estate Collection on sites of 3 to 8 acres. The community, seven miles from downtown Middleburg off a gravel road, provides a quietly beautiful setting for a luxurious lifestyle in complete privacy.

The three home styles available at Fox Knoll range in size from 3,630 to 4,600 finished square feet on the two upper levels, with room to expand with a finished lower level and optional floor plans. Some of the homes include an in-ground basement, and others have a walkout basement.

The homes are base-priced from $694,990 to $764,990. Some of the homesites have a lot premium of $15,000 to $40,000.

While buyers can customize the homes at Fox Knoll, standard features in the Marquis Custom Estate Collection include a stone-and-siding exterior, decorative exterior lighting, a sodded and seeded yard and a three-car side-entry garage.

The homes have four bedrooms, three or four full baths and a powder room. Each has hardwood flooring in the foyer, powder room and first-floor hall; ceramic tile flooring in the kitchen, breakfast room, butler’s pantry, morning room, laundry room, full baths and family foyer; 9-foot ceilings on all three levels; an oak main staircase with stained oak railings; crown, panel, chair-rail and base molding; a gas fireplace in the family room; brushed-chrome lighting fixtures; and a ceiling medallion in the dining room.

Each kitchen has 42-inch maple cabinets, recessed lighting, Energy Star appliances and granite counters. The master suite has a coffered ceiling in the bedroom and sitting room with crown molding, and the master bath has a soaking tub and a separate shower.

Buyers can work with the Van Metre design center to choose the finishes and fixtures in their homes.

The homes also have a high-tech wiring system, an Energy Star qualified propane furnace, dual-zone heating and air conditioning, a programmable thermostat, and low-E windows.

The Avery model, base-priced from $729,990, has 4,300 finished square feet. This home has a front porch leading into a two-story foyer with a split staircase to the upper level that is accessible from the foyer and the family room. The main level has a formal living room, a formal dining room and a study with a double-door entrance.

At the back of the house are a family room with a fireplace and a wall of windows, a center-island kitchen with a door to an optional deck, and a separate morning room. This level also has a powder room, a mudroom and multiple closets.

Buyers can choose an optional floor plan with a first-floor master suite in place of the study, a first-floor in-law suite or an expanded garage to accommodate four cars.

Upstairs, the master suite has a bedroom with a wall of windows, a sitting room with an optional fireplace, two oversized walk-in closets, and a luxurious bath with a soaking tub, a separate shower and two vanities.

Three additional bedrooms on this level each have a private full bath and a walk-in closet. The upper level also has a “retreat,” an open area to use as a reading room, playroom or computer room. A laundry room completes this level.
