“I thought Ed made it pretty clear what happened, or at least what he could say,” Shanahan said.

Injury report

• Wide receiver Pierre Garcon (right foot) and safety Brandon Meriweather (left knee) were limited in practice Thursday. Each player’s status for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles is uncertain. Garcon has not played since Oct. 7.

“[Garcon has] made progress. He’s improving. Hopefully there’s no setback, but he’s gotten better each day,” Shanahan said. “I’m not sure how many guys this time of year are a hundred percent. I think everybody’s banged up a little bit and you fight through it. Pierre’s one of those guys. He’s just been out for a while.”

Meriweather has not played in a regular-season game for the Redskins. Shanahan sounded optimistic about the possibility of his playing against the Eagles.

• Right tackle Jammal Brown (left hip) did not take part in what would have been his first padded practice of the season.

“Obviously it’s a setback because he couldn’t practice today. He was quite sore this morning and we didn’t know he was going to be that way,” Shanahan said. “We thought he was going to practice. But he got in this morning for treatment and that’s why he’s out. It’s a setback but we’ll find out here shortly exactly how big a setback it is.”
