The National Football League (NFL) is the highest level of professional American football in the United States. It was formed by eleven teams in 1920 as the American Professional Football Association, with the league changing its name to the National Football League in 1922. The league currently consists of thirty-two teams from the United States. The league is divided evenly into two conferences — the American Football Conference (AFC) and National Football Conference (NFC), and each conference has four divisions that have four teams each, for a total of 16 teams in each conference. The NFL is an unincorporated 501(c)(6) association,For example, "The Detroit Lions is a 'Professional' Football team owned by William Clay Ford, Sr., with a membership in the National Football League (NFL), which is an unincorporated association governed by its own constitution and bylaws." The Pittsburgh Steelers aren't ready to part ways with Hines Ward just yet.
Freddie Solomon, the former Miami Dolphins and 49ers wide receiver who became known as "Fabulous Freddie" and committed himself to community service, has died. He was 59.

Nate Lubick is difficult to miss. Built like an NFL tight end at 6-foot-8 and 235 pounds, Lubick specializes in the dirty, bruising work in the post. But the ex-Parade All-American's sophomore season has been fraught with inconsistency.

The current occupant of the White House is a basketball guy. Other recent Leaders of the Free World have been partial to golf, jogging and brush clearing. Not Richard Nixon. Nixon loved football — any kind of football.
Steelers' wide receiver Hines Ward wants to retire with the Pittsburgh Steelers, offering to restructure his contract to do it.
The Patriots got exactly what they wanted when the Giants threw to Mario Manningham on New York's last Super Bowl drive.
Nineteen months after "The Decision" sent his personal stock plummeting, LeBron James is as desperate as ever to please and still clueless on how to go about it.

The New York Giants already started preparing to defend their Super Bowl title, just days after winning their second NFL title in five seasons.
It appears Santonio Holmes is sticking around _ just as the New York Jets said he would.

A nationwide enforcement operation targeting stores, flea markets and street vendors selling counterfeit NFL and Super Bowl memorabilia has netted more than 50,300 counterfeit items that would have sold for more than $5.1 million.
The strangest coaching decision during Super Bowl week wasn't when Bill Belichick ordered his defense to act like matadors and wave Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw by for a touchdown from 6 yards out with less than a minute left in the game. That's just the one people will remember. The really odd one came four days earlier when the uber-prepared Patriots coach, anticipating a halftime show that would dictate a 30-minute intermission rather than the usual 12, ordered his players to take a break from practicing football and practice sitting in the locker room for a half-hour instead.

One million people are expected as New York celebrates its team's Super Bowl football win with a ticker-tape parade.
Tom Coughlin is coming back. Eli Manning is only getting better. And the vast majority of the New York Giants' starting lineup is under contract.
Ricky Williams is retiring from the NFL. Again. This time, however, it appears to be for good.

Once again, it's time to check off some items on my "TIDU List" — Things I Don't Understand.
