Coach: Keith Brown. First season
Last season: 23-9, NCAA second round
Key player: G Sugar Rodgers. The preseason honorable mention All-American led the team in scoring in 25 of its 32 games last season. With a new coach and several fresh faces on the bench this year, she will be counted on for both scoring and leadership.
Biggest loss: Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. In eight seasons as head coach, Williams-Flournoy led the Hoyas to four straight 20-win seasons and a Sweet 16 appearance. She accepted the head job at Auburn in April.
Top newcomer: G/F Logan Battle. The Virginia native arrives at Georgetown as one of the top wing prospects in the country, having led her high school team in scoring, rebounding and blocks as a senior. Her size (6-foot-2) makes her a versatile option for a team that lost much of last year's starting lineup.
Best case: Georgetown's decision to stay in-house with its new head coach and hire Brown, a former Hoya assistant, pays off. The newcomers take some of the scoring burden off Rodgers and the Hoyas notch their fifth straight 20-win season en route to another solid run in the NCAA Tournament.
Worst case: The loss of the "Serendipitous Seven," last year's senior class, is too much to overcome. Opposing teams key in on Rodgers, no secondary scoring options arise, and the Hoyas hover around the .500 mark.
Nov. 19 vs. Louisiana State. Georgetown has a challenging but winnable contest in the preseason WNIT against LSU, a program that has been among the best in the country over the last decade but taken a step back of late.
Jan. 9 vs. Connecticut. The Hoyas will try to avenge last season's 42-point loss in their second BIG EAST game of the year against the Huskies.
Jan. 15 at Notre Dame. The week won't get any easier for Georgetown, and two games later they'll be in South Bend facing the national runners-up. If the Hoyas can steal a win, however, it could give them all the momentum they need to make a strong push in conference play.
