“I’m on board,” Hendricks said. “If it’s something that doesn’t take a lot of getting used to then, yeah, it’s definitely a good idea.”

Laich off ice again

Forward Brooks Laich did not skate Wednesday, his fourth straight day off the ice as he tries to rehab a groin injury suffered in Switzerland during the NHL lockout. Oates said Laich was doing off-ice workouts instead.

“Brooks is fine,” the Caps’ coach said. “He’s just been doing a treatment where they want [him] to stay off the ice for a couple of days for strength purposes.”

Laich is on the nonroster list and can be activated at any time. But there’s no timetable for the 29-year-old to make his season debut and no reason to believe that will be anytime soon.

Ice chips

• Forward Marcus Johansson, who has missed the past three games since the team announced he was dealing with an upper-body injury, skated with defenseman Mike Green before Wednesday’s practice. He left the ice as practice was beginning, and Oates had no further update on Johansson’s status.

Holtby will make his fifth straight start in goal when the Caps host the Devils on Thursday night, Oates said.
