A woman was killed Monday morning when she stepped in front of a Metro train at the Ballston Metro Station, officials said.
The woman was struck around 11:30 a.m. after she "intentionally placed herself in the path" of an Orange Line train. As of 12:30 p.m., rescue personnel were still on the scene trying to recover the woman's body, Metro spokesman Philip Stewart said.
The woman has not been identified.
Metro service has been suspended between Clarendon and East Falls Church as a result of the incident, and shuttle buses are transporting passengers between stations. Officials expect single track service to resume shortly between the stations, Mr. Stewart said.
