Two men are dead and at least seven others injured in string of separate shootings and stabbings — including one at a nightclub — within a 24-hour span Sunday and early Monday in the District, according to police.
In the most recent fatal shooting, 29-year-old Frederick Booker died Sunday night after he was found inside a car suffering from a gunshot wound. Police responded to the 4100 block of 20th Street Northeast, amid a neighborhood of single family homes, around 6:40 p.m. Sunday for a report of an unconscious person in a car.
Mr. Booker was taken to a hospital but did not survive. Police did not provide any suspect descriptions or potential motive in the shooting.
Another man, 21-year-old Alvin Allen Jr., was fatally shot earlier Sunday.
Police said Mr. Allen, another man and a teenage boy were struck in the 3400 block of Stanton Road Southeast around 2:50 a.m. The others survived the shooting. Police have not released any suspect descriptions or motive in that case either.
In the 24 hours after the Stanton Road shootings, at least five others would be injured by gunfire or stabbings across the city.
Shortly after the Stanton Road shooting, nearly 4 miles away, a man complained that he heard gunshots, then realized he felt pain in his chest and noticed he had been shot. The shooting happened in the 4500 block of Benning Road Southeast, close to the Benning Road Metro Station around 2:56 a.m. Sunday. The 18-year-old was hit in both the chest and the hand, Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Officer Tisha Gant said. No suspects have been identified.
The violence subsided during most of the day Sunday but picked up with Mr. Booker’s shooting and a stabbing reported around 7 p.m. in the 400 block of 2nd Street Northwest — a block occupied by a homeless shelter that sits a stone’s throw from police headquarters.
Police said a man was approached from behind by several people he did not know. They beat him in the face and someone stabbed him in the back with a knife, Officer Gant said. Police provided no information about the man’s condition or any description of the attackers.
Farther north, near Sherman Circle in Northwest, a woman was stabbed late Sunday night by a man who attacked her as she got out of her car. The woman had parked in the 400 block of Emerson Street Northwest around 11:15 p.m. when a man stabbed her. She suffered wounds to the arm and scratches to her chest and stomach.
The man who attacked her was described as a 6-foot-2-inch black man with a thin build wearing a black and white track suit.
Overnight, a shooting was reported about a half mile from the site where the woman was attacked.
A man was walking near 3rd and Madison streets in Northwest when he was shot in the stomach around 1:30 a.m. He was taken to a hospital to be treated. Police were unable to provide a lookout for any suspects or provide information about the seriousness of his injuries.
Through the MPD Twitter account, police also said a shooting was reported about the same time in the 300 block of Missouri Avenue, which is about a block from the 3rd and Madison intersection. Officer Gant was unable to confirm whether those were the same incidents or provide any details about the Missouri Avenue shooting.
Similarly, through the D.C. police alert system, officials reported a stabbing around 8:10 p.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of 17th Street Northeast, but officers could not confirm any details of the incident or even that it happened.
