The Charles County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men accused of taking over 100 bronze vases from a cemetery so they could be melted down. The 100 memorial vases, worth a total of more than $100,000, were taken at separate times from Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf last month and earlier this month. On July 8, deputies noticed a van near the cemetery and upon following up found vases in trash cans, the sheriff’s office said on social media. (Photo courtesy of Charles County Sheriff's Office)

Hegseth joins veterans, generals to mark 80th anniversary of battle of Iwo Jima
A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
