New York artist Leo Villareal created his largest light installation on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in March 2013. It was initially contracted as a two-year project ending in 2015 as the bridge will undergo maintenance. Now the installation is among 11 sites being listed as endangered landscapes by the Cultural Landscape Foundation. A campaign is underway to keep the project funded through 2026. Hegseth joins veterans, generals to mark 80th anniversary of battle of Iwo Jima
A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
