The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) is looking for stewards for historic lighthouses in an effort to save tax dollars while preserving the past. As part of the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act (NHLPA), the agency is offering three historic lighthouses in Michigan at no cost to eligible state or local governments, nonprofit corporations, historic preservation groups, or community development organizations. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
