Several studies show that most serial killers start their lives as sociopaths by torturing or killing pets. For years, the FBI has filed animal cruelty crimes with a variety of others under the heading of “other,” making them hard to find, hard to count and hard to track. That’s changing. The FBI announced this month it would make animal cruelty a Group A felony with its own category, the same way crimes like homicide, arson and assault are listed in the agency’s Uniform Crime Report Program. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
