This undated photo provided by John Day Fossil Beds National Monument paleontologist Joshua Samuels in May 2015 shows a portion of the fossilized skull and teeth of an ancient beaver found at the John Day Fossil Beds National Monument in eastern Oregon. Samuels says the fossil is significant because it represents a newly described species, Microtheriomys brevirhinus. Unlike other ancient beaver species found at the monument, his one appears to be related to modern beavers. (Joshua Samuels/National Park Service via AP)
