CORRECTS DAY OF WEEK PHOTO WAS TAKEN TO TUESDAY, NOT WEDNESDAY - The state-owned Otsego dam on the Kalamazoo River, seen Tuesday, March 31, 2015, got more grant money to help with its eventual demolition and restoration of the river to its natural course. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Division was awarded $102,050 to provide further assistance to fund the Otsego Dam removal project in Otsego Township, on River Road near the Bittersweet Ski Resort. The dam is crumbling and no longer generates power or holds back water. But the structure that's left still serves an important function-- keeping contaminated sediments from flooding downstream, closer to Lake Allegan and Lake Michigan.
