Had to make a mad dash to the D.C. Passport Office for an upcoming trip. From start to finish — automated telephone appointment system, online Web page for completing the passport application (sparing the clerks a struggle with my handwriting) to the final, digital-photo-applied Passport (what, no smart chip?), it’s a marvelous system. Fast, efficient and, yes, you pay for it (in terms of time and money), but it’s worthwhile.

Now, if only they could (a) ratchet up the air conditioning and (b) fix the men’s room!
