Last night at Verizon Center:

It was the second sellout of the season for the Caps at home, but it sounded a lot like Mellon Arena for much of the night. Before the game there were several dozen Pittsburgh supporters in the lower bowl near the Penguins tunnel. One fan held a sign against the glass that read: “25 Tickets = $975, Party Bus = $1,375, 30 more years beating the Caps = Priceless.”

“I was in the corner and chipped the puck back to Ryan Malone, and then I got into the fight. Other than that, I don’t know what happened.”

— Penguins pugilist Georges Laraque, who was credited with an assist and a fighting major at the same time on the scoresheet at 15:52 of the second period

6 Teams in NHL history that have made a 40-point improvement from one season to the next after the Penguins’ victory last night. Pittsburgh now has 98 points with four games left. Last season the Penguins finished with 58 points, the second-lowest total in the league.
