A young man who possibly drowned was found dead at the bottom of a Laurel pond on Tuesday night.

Prince George’s County fire department officials said they were alerted to a possible drowning around 8:45 p.m. when witnesses reported that a man had gone under water and never resurfaced.

The search lasted until 10:20 p.m. when personnel found the man at the bottom of the pond. Officials performed CPR on the scene and the man was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On Twitter Wednesday morning, police officials identified him as 21-year-old Kalif Omar Richardson of District Heights. An autopsy is being performed on Wednesday and toxicology test results will be available in six weeks.

The water ranged in depth from around 2 to 4 feet.

Rescuers used a water rescue team, boat and a police helicopter in the search.

Prince George’s County police will be investigating the incident further.
