SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) - A state highway that runs through the southwest Iowa community of Correctionville is moving.

The Sioux City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1dOWxhF ) a major redevelopment project will cause Highway 31 to move from Correctionville’s center to the west edge. It will be close to the Little Sioux River and other land.

The Iowa Transportation Commission plans to vote on finalizing the changes in a future meeting. The newspaper says the changes mean Woodbury County and the city will be responsible for maintaining the highway instead of the state.

Correctionville lies on a portion of a 44-mile segment of nearby U.S. Highway 20 that has only two lanes from Moville to Early. The state Department of Transportation plans to widen a 12-mile section by 2017.
