KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) - Sporting Kansas City has signed Spanish midfielder Victor Munoz, who grew up in the Real Madrid academy system before moving to the United States to attend college.

The 23-year-old Munoz, a native of Madrid, will be added to the Sporting KC roster pending the receipt of his visa and an international transfer certificate.

Munoz was chosen in the second round of this past year’s draft by D.C. United, and appeared in four preseason games before he was released. He began his college career at Iona before transferring to UCLA, where he was second-team All-Pac 12 as a senior.

Sporting KC manager Peter Vermes said Tuesday that Munoz trained with his club last season, and that his style fits into the way the MLS Cup champions prefer to play.
