Liberals are nothing if not hypocritical.
One of the holy grails of the left is to get their hands on conservative donor lists. They got their hands on the donor list for those who supported California’s Proposition 8 in 2008. Prop 8 was the California ballot initiative that declared marriage to be between one man and one woman.
Supporters of Prop 8 were hounded by left wing activists. Some even lost their jobs because of it.
When the Obama regime leaked the tax return for the National Organization for Marriage, among other things left wing activists discovered was that Brendan Eich, who was appointed the CEO of Mozilla, had given $1000 to help Prop 8 in 2008. The pressure began and within days, Mr. Eich was forced out of his job.
But when the shoe is on the other foot, it is amazing to watch left wing groups do a 180.
In New Jersey, the American Humanist Association has filed a lawsuit in Monmouth County demanding that the phrase “Under God” be dropped from the Pledge of Allegiance.
The New Jersey state legislature passed a law requiring the pledge to be recited every day, but did provide for an opt out for those who objected to the pledge.
The plaintiffs in the lawsuit object. Like liberals everywhere, tolerance is only a one-way street and everyone is expected to tolerate them but they are not expected to offer similar tolerance.
Who are these plaintiffs?
No one knows because they were allowed to file the lawsuit anonymously.
The lawyer for the American Humanist Association said the family demanded anonymity because people who file these lawsuits are often faced with “great hostility.”
Welcome to the world conservatives live in.
These plaintiffs, assuming they exist at all, hide behind the wall of anonymity. Where is the courage of their convictions? More importantly, where is the left wing demanding that their names be revealed?
The left has been demanding conservatives who contribute to conservative causes or even work for conservative causes be identified. The DISCLOSE Amendment is a major goal of the left.
Because if conservative donors can be identified, they can be harassed.
On April 4, far left writer William Saletan, writing for Slate.com advocated an even more radical policy. Mr. Saletan noted that there were 35,000 people who contributed to support Proposition 8.
Then he asked the question, “Why do these bigots still have jobs?”
Mr. Saletan later claimed the story was “satire.” If it is, he is the worst satirical writer on the planet.
The left has a lot of double standards. This is one of them. They want anonymity for those who promote leftist causes, but want to strip it away from those who support conservative causes so they can be harassed mercilessly.
Michael Savage once titled a book, “Liberalism is a mental disorder.”
It is more than that. It is a threat to liberty.
