BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) - A conference devoted to a prison diversion program continues in Bloomington.
The statewide gathering is the 2014 Adult Redeploy Illinois All-Sites Summit and opened Thursday.
Adult Redeploy is a program of the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority. It offers financial incentives to counties and judicial circuits to develop programs to divert low-level offenders from prison.
Adult Redeploy currently supports 19 programs operating in 34 counties. Officials say a typical Adult Redeploy intervention costs $4,400. The annual cost of prison per inmate is $21,500.
Authorities say the program has saved $23.5 million since it began in 2011.
Attending the conference are more than 130 Adult Redeploy participants, including judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, treatment providers, probation officers and more.
